Just wondering what everyone's oldest bill you've found in circulation worthy of holding onto!!! Mine's a 1934 $20
Last summer I got a series 1928 B $20 in change while buying a pizza. Almost as old is a series 1929 $20 National Currency note from the Richmond Fed. Reserve I received in change a couple of weeks later.
In about 1990 I found a 1934C $10 Silver Certificate. It was (and remains) in relatively good condition. I was working in a grocery store at the time, and a lady tried to pay her bill with 7 of them. The girl at the register and the manager didn't know what they were. The lady spending them did, but didn't care. I only had $10 on me at the time, and they would let me put the other 6 on hold until I could get some more cash from home.
well, i've collected coins since 2003, but didn't start collecting bills until june 2006. so far i've found a 1981A $1 bill. not much, but still fun to find!
i found a 1922 $100 note about 15 years ago .. i was on vacation when i got it.. i told myself if i could go the whole vacation without needing to spend it, i would certainyl keep it ... unfortunately i was forced to spend it near the end of the trip ... i tried like heck to save so i wouldnt spend it lol. .. it wasnt the best of shape, good to fine.. and fine would be stretching it.. but it was so cool to get
to bad you spent it! that would be cool to have. i imagine it would be worth something now days. its probaly in a collection right now, or it might have gotton shredded!
i saw a 1922 $100 note for sale on Ebay a year or so ago.. it only sold for $50-200, i cant remember the exact amount, but i do remember thinking that the note i found was not as good a shape as the one just sold, so i knew it would be worth less... but for me the value would be in having it, not the saleable value
i found a dollar bill a few months ago circa 1989 lol. thats about it , I dont have much luck with that kind of thing
I once found a $5 United States Note in circulation. I think it's a 1934-A series, but I am not sure. That's it for me, but then again, I didn't realize that $1 Federal Reserve Notes didn't start until series 1963.
if thats the case Mike .. think of this.. at one point there were 6 forms of legal currency floating around the USA
you mean: Federal Reserve Notes (green seal) United States Notes (red seal) Silver Certificates (blue seal) Gold Certificates (yellow seal) National Currency (brown seal) and??? I am guessing the large size notes??? I give up thinking on this one.
here are some pictures... first - the 1963 $5 star us note second - the 1934 $20 third - 1969B $10 star from Richmond VA (minted 640,000) forth - 1969B $20 star from Atlanta GA (minted 640,000) all found in circulation!
also... does anybody know why the last two are listed as having 640000 minted, but the serial exceeds that amount?
The oldest I've found would probably be 1986 from change or 1973 from the bank. Dont get many old bills as the design changes dramatically and so taken out of circulation quickly.
