I was perusing some population/census reports on a coin and had an odd thought. For a copper type coin that had max grades of (for the sake of argument) 66-brown, 65- red/brown, and 64 red--do each of these get the 'top pop' accolade as each are tops in their color category? Or, if there were a 65 brown, red/brown, and red, would all three or only the red one get the honor? My own opinion is that if all the numerical grades are tied, then the REAL top pop is the one with the red color. Unsure what I think with the 66/65/64 issue, so I'm curious to hear what others think.
Yes each of the different colors would be a different top pop. Same for any designation really like FBL of FH ect
Just for the sake of discussion (not saying I agree or disagree), PCGS typically gives a +2 for RD and a +1 for RB in registry calculations. So an MS64RD would outscore an MS65BN and tie an MS65RB and an MS66BN. That said, as stated earlier, there are different Top Pop for different designations.
Here's how old I'm getting - I see "top pop", but my mind reads "pop top"- or a can that is opened without a can opener. Brewskis!
