One of my newer coins is this Israel 10 Pruot (also Prutot) of 1957. (JE 5717). Weighs 1.61 grams, specific gravity is 2.73. Diameter is 24.5 mm.. It is unusual in that it is copper electroplated over aluminum. Most specimens show wear (aluminum showing through the thin Cu layer). This one is in great uncirculated condition, with 99% of the bright copper intact. KM# 20a. Grabbed it on EBAY, a treasure to me. June 19, 2015.
Agreed. I don't have any special knowledge of these coins, but that's the problem. I wish it was safe to buy some of these older Chinese silvers but there are way too many fakes. The one time I tried I got burned.
Working on Central and South America now. The 1976 Costa Rica Proof set is interesting. The coins are all Copper-Nickel, no silver. Both Obverse and Reverse appear to be plain. No special historical figures or images. Yet there is a premium attached to this set. Why? One of the reasons is that prior to 2000, Cost Rica only made Proof set in 1889, 1937,3 different sets in 1970, 1974,1975, and 1976. With the exception of the 1974 with a mintage of 30,000, all are low mintage. The 1976 has a mintage of only 5,000! Pics are obstructed by the scratches and glare from the hard plastic case. the 50 Centimos has some cloudiness on the obverse, but the rest are in great shape for being almost 40 years old.
This coin was struck for the Yemen Royalist Government in exile. Mintage is 6,000 Weight 24.92g Diameter 37mm Silver fineness 0.720 ASW 0.5769 Grade is Choice Uncirculated
1789 Schleswig-Holstein. Speciedaler (60 Schilling). I was waiting to get one of these for long time as they are usually expensive. I found this one recently for a affordable price. Graded XF-45 its toned and very historic year 1789.
I thought that I'd add my latest. I think it falls in to World Coins? An 1887 withdrawn shield sixpence. It looked better in the sales photo! It is 0.925 silver with a mintage of 3,676,000.
Coin show pick-ups. Just from a junk bin. The half penny is gold plated, so still worthless but I thought it looked interesting. I also love the early soviet. Don't know much about those.
