Heritage shows that the last one sold for:

    $420---Arp. 16, 2007

And from the looks of the graph:
    http://coins.gpanalysis.com/heritagecoins.aspx?heritage=MjQ4ODQ7NDtWREI7Qk47

The coins were down....and then went up to around $600 and are know again going down.

I think the price of $400-$500 is much more closer to the true price for this item. I paid alittle over $700 for my SVDB in VF last year.

    Speedy,
The numbers are correct, but that coin was corroded. The last one sold on Heritage without problems (G-4) was February 12, 2006 at $575.

When buying an S-VDB, definitely take your time and buy the nicest one you can buy for whatever grade you decide to purchase. Do not be afraid to look at a good number of coins. Because they were heavily saved, they are not extremely difficult to find at small or large shows.

since it is a coin that is target by counterfeiters I suppose that all would agree that it should be in plastic.

Well when I bought mine I did exhuastive research on the diagnostics, went to a major dealer in my neck of the woods at the time that I had a bit of a relationship with and asked him if he had the 09 s vdb. He had exactly one in stock. This was 2003. I had a budget of $600 allotted for this coin and I was searching for VG/F. He brought it out a beautiful VF-35/XF-40 raw in a flip marked $650. I knew right then after putting under my loupe that it was authentic and I had to have it. We haggled for 2 minutes and I picked it up for $575. I was soooo happy.

Thats exactly the reason I bought mine that way. The first time that I bought an 09-S VDB I didnt even think about the chance of the coin being fake, but then of course (probably early 1980s sometime) the coin didnt cost nearly what it does now.
