On feebay they run from 100-150$. I'm on a limited budget so is it worth even getting these or should I just use it for silver 2$ above spot? Opinions welcome :)

I think it is worth it to buy the 2006 w gold eagle, the 2007 w gold eagle, and the 2008 w gold eagle as they are the low mintage coins of the 1/10 uncirculated gold eagles. Also the 2008 w buffalo 1/10 gold if you can get a steal on one of those.

I think $100 is reasonable as there is a premium over what would be expected for corresponding larger units. At the last couple of coin shows, I have been able to buy them in a slab for $105. I only buy them to use as gifts ( Christmas, birthdays, graduations, etc.).

I think if you can find them under $120 your doing good. Going rate today is around $120-125

Here is the difference between the 2008:

    2008 gold eagle 1/10

    http://cgi.ebay.com/2008-Fine-Gold-...s=65:15|66:2|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

    2008 W Gold eagle 1/10

    http://cgi.ebay.com/2008-W-GOLD-EAG...s=65:15|66:2|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

The first one is high mintage, the second one is the low mintage one. Be sure to get the ones with the W. For all three years it is the same.

I would buy graded coins if you can, just try to snipe them off of Ebay, bid at the last minute only if possible.

Personally, I don't like the 1/10oz size. It's soooo small.

If you have a limited budget..either save it for a while and buy a 1/2oz or just buy silver (more bang for the buck). You can get a nice roll of mixed date circulated silver quarters for $120.

yeah I just bought 7 ounces in bars yesterday, I'm pretty set with silver. I want to grab some gold incase silver divebombs, so I'll just save up for the 1/2 oz

I just hate paying the premiums for the fractionals. For example Apmex currently list these prices.

    1/10 - 127 ...thats 127x10= 1,270 an ounce.
    1/4 - 282 ..thats 282x4 = 1,128 an ounce
    1/2 - 545 ..thats 545x2 = 1,090 an ounce
    1 oz - 980 an ounce.

By buying 1/10 coins you are paying $290 more an ounce.

    2008w am buffalo gold proof:
    one ounce - $2,150.00
half ounce - $1,025.00 or $2,050 per oz.
    1/4 ounce - $680.00 or $2,720.00 per oz.
    1/10 ounce-$400.00 or $4,000.00 per oz.

the 1/10 oz. went up faster than the rest.

    Small gold

Per ounce small gold per unit is expensive.
That said if that is in your budget, it is better then doing nothing.
Good MS 69 coins can be had for reasonable prices if you watch what you are doing. Many are not worth putting under plastic unless you purchase that way.
Summer time may bring a lull, to buy in.
If by Christmas gold goes over a thousand dollars. The stimulus money hits the markets as newly printed currency. Then all bets are off how much gold will go up, and how much inflation will be generated .

Here's tip.... do a msn live search "now Bing search" do a" buy it now" use Pay Pal and get the cash back! You may get between 8 -14 % back on a BIN purchase. Lets say you buy a 1/4 oz Rand /Maple leaf etc... @ $250.00 for the coin. spot is what $920.00 today ? If you catch the cash back at 10% you get back $25.00 off the purchase. so your $250.00 purchase is now $225.00 . You can get up to $2500.00 cash back from the cash back program. So far I have got back over an ounce and a half of gold back on my PM purchases! :) Paddy

On a percentage basis you actually make the most money off of the small gold 1/10 compared to the larger denomination coins.

For example last year you could purchase about 7 1/10 ounce gold buffalo coins for each 1 ounce coin.

Today the 7 1/10 ounce are worth depending on grade $2800 or more while the one ounce is only worth $2000 or even less.
