Monetary system of the Papal State was very inconvenient until 1860. Much more inconvenient than old English monetary system. 5 quattrini = 1 baiocco. 5 baiocci = 1 grosso. 6 grossi = 4 carlini = 3 giullio = 3 paoli = 1 testone. 14 carlini = 1 piastre. 100 baiocci = 1 scudo. 10 testone = 1 doppia.

After the Decimal monetary reform monetary system of the Papal State become a rather simple: 5 centesimi = 1 soldo. 20 soldi = 1 lira.
Papal State lost own independence in 1870. But it become independent state (as Vatican City) in 11 February 1929. Since 1870 until 1929 Vatican did not minted own coins.
