I spotted this on in the coin store showcase and noticed it seemed to be almost lavender in color. On closer inspection it turned out to be an Alexandria,Egypt issue of emperor Hadrian in the year 125 AD,but the reason I actually bought it was the bust of the sun god Helios on the back.I'm not sure I've ever seen one quite as nice.
It almost looks layered/silvered??? You have got to have the COOLEST coin shop in the nation to find the stuff you come up with. Nice Ben
Bone,It does look like it might have been silvered at one time which would explain the unusual toning on a bronze coin.I'll have to do some further research.
Yep that deffinatly has a silverd look to it, personaly I think it adds something to the look De Orc :kewl: Ps MikJo did you by any chance see my request for info on the person you know who sells Notgeld??
Yes I did,in fact it was today. He sold them all to a big dealer in Baltimore, whose name escapes me now, for $200.Arrrggghh!
You're right Aidan,I didn't think of that. The toning looks identical to some of the medieval silver coins and even some 19th century US ones that I have.
I looked this coin up on Wildwinds and found nothing until I followed one of their links at the bottom of their Hadrian page. The Helios reverse is shown here as year 14 so either I have the date wrong or they repeated the year 9 design.Check out some of the other reverses as well, stags,Pan w/horns,a quadriga pulled by elephants, poppies and stars. http://www.kernunnos.com/coins/Hadrian/index.shtml
