......that I can remember in which CT got so many "Top 10's" posted as separate threads. Does anyone have any "Bottom 10's"? You know, like coins they bought raw on SleazeBay that turned out to be losers. Chris
I actually considered making one of those bottom 10 threads. Maybe I’ll do it...is there enough interest in such a venture?
Remember when that guy bought a 1909 VDB on eBay and PCGS graded it as a proof, but it really was just a business strike? It definitely belongs in the bottom 10.
That one was a classic. Another one I liked is the guy who posted “blueprints” of the new office for his “highly respected” coin firm that looked like they were hastily made on Microsoft Paint.
Maybe not! If the "Top 10's" find the need to post separate threads, it may be that no one really cares. Chris
Not if she was prescient enough to know about #MeToo (assuming the poster was a he and the secretary was a she). Steve
It took me far too long to find this thread from a guy who believed the majority of silver dollars in existence have been microscopically numbered. I don't think it got much notice, but it was one of my favorite weird threads of 2017: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/would-anybody-say-this-is-a-1896-morgan-dd-o.292454/#post-2673210
I don't have a top 10 worst coins of 2017. But I do have one that disappoints me more than the rest. I bought it at a a brick and mortar coin store. I forgot my loop and it looked good under their lighting so I bought it. Paid $25 for it, actually my son paid for it, but I chose it. This is what disappoints me the most. I should've spotted this. When I got home and got it under my lighting I found it looks harshly cleaned. I now carry a loop with me everywhere I go because of this coin. The coin. A 1931 Panama Balboa
Hmmm...I must have missed out on this poster. I was away for a bit. I'm not sure I should be glad I didn't have to listen to it...or sad that I missed out on the entertainment.
Yeah! It was a lot like some dentist offices with all of those funky chairs behind closed doors. Chris
My first three Peace Dollars turned out to all be common dates and cleaned. I paid about $30.00 each thinking I was getting a really good deal.
I don't have a photo of it, but I bought a commemorative half early in '17 that I determined was fake after I received it. I contacted Ebay and they refunded my money and told me that I could do whatever with the coin. I still have it somewhere.
It appears @Dawg disappeared not long after the post about the microscopic 833s. That particular thread just sort of died... Steve PS Now, if the digits would have been 666 I suspect we’d still be checking those carbon spots.
