I like ducats as much as the next guy - as long as the next guy isn't JD - but the obverse of this coin has some questions that need answers.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=540&item=3961861044&rd=1 but that is a B E A UTIFUL reverse
You just HAD to go and show me that didn't ya Doesn't matter, I woulda found it tonight when I got home That is likely the finest example of that coin I have ever seen. And I've been looking at them for 3 yrs now. The strike on that coin is absolutely amazing ! I understand your comment - but there really aren't any issues - it is quite normal. I'll explain further when I have more time.
I absolutely agree. It is a fantastic coin! I was just meaning the image. I have never seen anything quite like it... a sheep holding a flag? Maybe it should be posted in the animals on coins thread, huh?
Ahhhhh - now I understand what ya meant by issues. That image, the sheep with a flag, had already been in use for 4 centuries or longer by the time this coin was struck. It represents the pascal lamb and was used by several different nations over the years. The coins were generally known as mouton d'or and in some instances are even quite rare. This one however is not. But finding them in this condition - well that's another story
