Honestly, i would probably go coin roll hunting a large chunk of the time. Just go hoping from stand to stand trading coins... How could i resist!
I do like those Isabella quarters though.....
Id save some money at the end to buy one or so.

    Thanks for the contest ;)!

This is a coiny (I mean, corney) little tale. It was supposed to have some art interspersed, but I couldn't figure out how to upload the drawing into places within the text so it would make sense and help tell the story. So I gave up and left them out. Imagine a mother with a fly daring to come close to her. Imagine the time contraption, the inventor, an alien and a drawstring purse.

    Way Back and Far Future

Tight whalebone corset, bustle above and behind my behind
in a window, I caught my hourglass reflection
topped with a straw hat adorned
    with pink and periwinkle peonies.
    Words father jokingly said
to my gussied-up mother years ago
came to mind, and I thought them
about myself: "No flies on you."

I strolled with the man I met in 2017
who suggested he escort me in 1893
as I toured the Chicago world fair.
In gray trousers, long-tailed coat, spats and top hat
he took my pale pink-gloved hand
and wove it under and over the crook of his arm's elbow.
He protected against splashing horse-drawn carriages
that threatened to soil my only period dress.

    Disembarking that time contraption
each passenger received five one dollar coins
which we were required to spend if we wanted
to return to 2017 twenty-three hours later.
But each time I tried to open
    my dangling drawstring purse
    my companion insisted on paying
for all my treats and entertainment.

So the only thing I was able to buy
were four Isabella quarters at a dollar apiece.
But when we left the fair late that evening
I implored him to be my dinner guest.
    When we heard friendly chatter
and smelled delicious aromas wafting out
we stopped and entered a place called
    "The Gay 90's Saloon."

    Inside steaming platters of meats,
    root vegetables and crusty loaves
streamed out from a noisy kitchen
carried high by aproned, handle-barred men.
The posted signs assured that as long as we stayed,
for the thirty-five cents charged each person
for a bottomless glass of on-tap beer
we could eat all and whatever we liked.

We spent that night together (at the saloon talking!)
until it was time to return to 2017 the next morning.
And during our conversation, to my surprise,
I learned he was the inventor of the time machine!
Late the next morning with thirty cents still to spend
I asked the jerk at a nearby drug store
to scoop two ice creams which we enjoyed
sprinkled with our smiles as we walked.

Back in 2017 we remained fast friends
and to help encourage his far future quest
    I auctioned those four Isabellas
which were burning holes in my drawstring purse.
And as I expected he reached his goal
and went ahead with family and friends
    to live long and prosper
    in far future outer space.

Ohhh..i'll try that...but in a bit. I spent too long on it already. I'll take a break so my frustration will settle down and then try again.
    Thanks.

    * That's going to have to be my contest submission. No art or photos. I'll leave it like this. It's way too long in any case, but thanks again @Nyatii

I would make the most of the $5.oo and purchase 500 Indian Cent's, of course! The more the merrier! More chances at finding and collecting those beautiful gems.

With this scenario being pure fantasy, I would take my $5 to a gun shop, purchase a colt "army" pistol, and (Jesse James style) Rob a Wells Fargo stage coach. With the money from that I would throw some into the streets to create a diversion, then buy every Isabella quarter, any proof coinage available, and well, any other thing that caught my fancy. Then hightail it to the time machine, before the posse caught up to me. You know, just off the top of my head. ;)
Excellent, creative way to do a giveaway. Thanks L.M.

@LaCointessa- were you not already getting two chances in the drawing, I'd give you another.

But you'll get a goodie package regardless, even if you don't win in this particular drawing. Check your PMs. :)

Oh- and if there is graphic art for this that already exists, I wanna see it! (But don't go through all the trouble of creating it if you didn't already. Your present literary composition was creative enough!)

Yaaaay @lordmarcovan! Goodie package! (But i really hope I'll win that medal). I'm singing: "Luck be a lady tonight! Luck, if you've ever been a lady to begin with -- Luck, be a lady toniiiiight!" ("Guys and Dolls" - I played Miss Adelaide with the heavy Brooklyn accent - Not on Broadway - c'mon).

Oh! @mikenoodle! I love your podcasts. You and your 'co-host' have an enjoyable chemistry. It's funny. It's informative! Nice production values! And I still have a gazillion of them to hear (since I only just discovered them and only listened to two so far). Thanks for making those shows.

I just listened to another episode of your podcast. It kept me entertained for an hour (which is one commuting cycle to and from work), so yes, most definitely.

Sure, if you go read the OP and tell us how you'd spend your virtual five bucks in 1893 Chicago.

    Edit- aha- you just did.

I would spend my time viewing and riding on various sites and rides such as the Ferris wheel, moving sidewalk, Teslas display and the illuminated Egyptian temple from western electric. I would spend the rest of my time coin hunting at any coin dealers there or from friendly employees manning their tills. My specific target would be seated liberty dollars. I would go for the best dates and condition as possible. I really like seated liberty coinage and would love to own some better date and/or nicer dollar examples. Unfortunately in today's prices there are just something's you can't afford lol.

Anybody else wants in, go ahead and post your entries.

You dare to mention a stamp on a coin forum? And you would have spent all your Morgans for it? May you burn in hell! (just kidding :)
