    Hello,

I have been a member for quite some time but have not been able to post for a number of reasons. I have been a collector of schützenfest medals for over 25 years. I started collecting because of my Dad and he has been collecting since the early 60's.

I feel that the quality and detail the engraving on schützenfest medals as well as their comparanle rarity in regards to most numismatic pieces is what makes them so desirable, IMHO

I have included a few pictures of some nice medals and will post more as time allows.

    Hi,

Most medals are silver, bronze, white metal, and gold.

This one is relatively rare because it is copper and gilded.

Schützenfest medals are primarily silver with bronze being the next most used metal. They are also minted in white metal, and gold.

There are some medals minted in copper, actually one of the medals pictured is gilded copper. There are gilded silver medals too.

Schützenfests also awarded shooting decorations that resemble military decorations, shooting cups and other forms of memorabilia.

Those are really cool! I'd imagine that the mintages are not so many.

You are correct, mintages are very very low compared to coins.

This is the thread that helped me find the Coin Talk forum.

I have known Schutzenfester for awhile and he has perhaps the nicest collection of medals I have ever seen. He's taught me a lot and I appreciate it.

Here are a few of mine...

    A 1906 Nyon........

Hans Frei designed this medal as well as the beautiful R132 (1909 Basel) and the R134 (1914 Sissach)
If it takes a lifetime I will own an R132.
