I've been working on puzzling out the print run structure of the $5's, $10's, and $20's in Series 1950A. At some point during the printing of this series, the standard run size was changed from 8000 sheets to 20,000 sheets, but the BEP doesn't appear to have retained any record of just when this was done. So I'm trying to figure out the changeover points by back-calculating from observed notes. (See the plate position arithmetic thread if you really want the math details.)

The project is coming along very slowly because it's hard to find enough notes to work from. So, if you've got any 1950A notes handy, please check to see if they fall into the following serial ranges (between the high observed old-run-size note and the low observed new-run-size note). If you've got notes from these ranges, I could use the serial number and the plate position letter. Thanks much for any assistance!

I'd like to help but currently have no 50-A series, but if you ever work on the C series similarly, here are two:

    1950-C $10 H30663118B
    1950-C $10 J02929554B

The only 50A I have is a $20 star note. Not sure if that helps or not?

Well, a couple of the notes you posted narrowed the serial ranges I still need to look for--that's why I edited the top post. Thanks!

As far as the 1950C notes Krispy posted: It's not really a question of which series I choose to look into. There's a run-size changeover in the middle of Series 1950A, and I'm trying to track down the serial where it happened in each denomination and district.

Everybody else: Some nice notes there, but if they're not within the serial ranges I listed, I'm afraid they don't help for present purposes....

Anyway, thanks for the assistance, and please do keep posting any notes you run across that fall into the listed ranges. I need to know the serial number and the plate position letter (so that I can calculate the run size).

Wow, great, thanks! Quite a few of those narrow down the ranges I need.

Hmmm...the forum isn't letting me update the top post again, though. Are you only allowed to edit a post once, or something?

Yes, there is some sort of time limitation, but I'm not sure how long that period is while you can still edit posts.

There's an ungraded Fr. 1962-B* $5 1950A Federal Reserve Star Note (Lot 31262) on HA.com that I had been tracking but it's gotten a little higher than I'd want to pay for it, esp. with some dirt/stains on the reverse:

    $5 1950A
    SN: B10603377*
    Front plate number: I237
    Back plate number: 2221

I was looking at that note also Krispy, but your right the stain on the rev. was distracting.

    LOL. ;)

I don't buy much from HA primarily due to the high taxes for items going to NY state addresses. But it just kills me to see how much of the final price on that item is BP! The bid amount was reasonable around $15 but the BP nearly doubles that. Final price was $34 inc. BP. :crying:

And another $5 shipping on top of that! You're right though, buying low dollar notes from HA, can turn into high $ notes fast. :headbang:

Great, thanks to all! We're making excellent progress at narrowing the gaps between the highest known 8000-sheet-run notes and the lowest known 20,000-sheet-run ones. I only wish I could edit the top post to reflect the narrower ranges we still need to look in....
