Roman coin used to advertise movie - Caligula (1979)

    This film is unusual in that it used a coin to advertise the film but
    the coin did not appear in the film itself.

    This 1979 film starred Malcolm McDowell as the young Emperor
    It was produced by Bob Guccione of Penthouse Magazine.

    Here's the coin used to advertise the film:

    Some were actually manufactured and given to crew members.

    Here's a real coin from Caligula:

    A real Roman coin would not have had the name "Caligula" on it.
    Caligula was a nickname for the Roman emperor Gaius Caesar Germanicus
    and he used variations of that name on his coins.

    This coin is a bronze As
    Inscription: C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT
    It is listed in the catalog Roman Imperial Coinage as number 38
