I'm in Raleigh however, I rarely search in Raleigh. I pretty much hunt to the east of the city in the smaller to mid size towns.

Some of you penny hunters have been spoiled, methinks.

I did a box today and got (drumroll):
    2 wheats and 2 canadian

    Wow

Also $70 in CWR halves; skunk

The pennies were 17.4% cu (slightly over my average). pretty weak stuff.

My two-bits worth on the box fee: Most of us do lots of business at banks. They rent our money out to others or charge us interest and in the process make loads of money - just by manipulating what is ours. They are generally ordering coin anyhow. I have no problem expecting them to throw a box or two of halves on the truck for me - no one is making a special trip or anything...
I have had a bank try to charge me for ordering boxes. I was nice to them, as I always am. But I stopped doing business there. In the long run, they lost a lot more than the $5 a box fee. If you don't have meaningful accounts with a bank, sure, it's fair for them to charge you. If you're doing lots of business there (it appears that you are), you have every right to expect them to provide "bank-like" services. If they stick to the fee, I'd find another bank.

    Great finds Inquisitive!!!!!!!!

And with regard to paying a fee for the boxes of halves. In the last 21 months I've searched 292 boxes and I haven't paid a fee for any of them. I have gotten these boxes from 4 main banks, but have ordered from 2 or 3 others as well. 1 to 2 a week from multiple banks helps keep your nuisance quotient lower.

Had an interview for a new job today, it went well... actually was interviewed by managers from two different stores, both liked me and want to talk to me again sometime next week. Really laid back interview, they went over some interesting stuff, joked around a bit. Hopefully that all bodes well.

    After that, I headed south and hit up some banks, and found this stuff;

This was a triumph! I'm making a note here; huge success. Thanks, Bear/New Castle, DE.

Hey!! New Castle? Wow maybe I'll have to call my aunt and uncle and tell them to start putting some halves from the bank back for me:) Then again, I'm not sure if they would want to keep them for the next year or so till I make it over

Worth noting that most of the banks I talked to had several hundred in rolls... that's by far the most common I've ever seen halves in my area. I really hope I get the job down there now, haha.

Did a box of cents; Three enders that had 2, 2, and 1 wheats in each. Disappointing... but the rest of the box, eh...

Also pulled my second '98 WAM, 5 Canadians.

Oh, and a box of dimes gave up one '64.

Stopped at 2 banks today. At the first one, they had $250 in halves. Usually this bank might have a couple, but no more. So, I was very hopeful. When I got them, they were all bank rolls, folded down on one end....in other words, search. Bleck.

Bank two had 10 Ikes (thank you very much) and $28 in loose halves. In those I found 3 40%ers, 5 1964 Kennedys and one 1946 Booker T. Washington silver commemorative half :D :) :D

    Moonshine ....................

    Nice finds Merc and bobbeth.

4 loose halves today and 1 was a '64. I've been doing about 3-4 boxes a week. I've had my ups and downs. One recent box had 2-3 Walkers, 2-3 Franklins and 2-3 '64s...it also had 10 40%ers along with almost a full roll worth of 1969's that are in AU condition. At the end of the month I'll post my quarterly results.

I put up a roll of 40%ers on ebay and am going to take the proceeds and open an account at 2 of my local banks which have no minimums or monthly fees. Each bank seems to have other branches throughout the state. I am going to work on building relationships with as many head tellers in banks as I can hoping that they will hold any halves (and anything else interesting) that come through. I had a recent situation at a bank near where I work that helped me make this decision to open these accounts. I stopped at a bank near work in NYC and asked if they had any halves. Teller #1 said she didn't and asked teller #2 who said she had 19 halves. Teller #1 asked me how many I wanted so I took out a $10 bill and said I'd take them all. Teller #2 asks if I have an account to which I said 'no' and she said she couldn't give them to me. I got a bit steamed and asked what she was going to do with them and if she was going to send them back. She said it was an internal policy. Ugh.

Hey Merc I would like to watch you go through a box of anything just to see what your technique is lol. I dont know if I can do cents My eyes cant take it. I think I might just start getting pennies and then invest in one of those copper penny sorting machines and then hopefully later down the road someone will invent a machine that will seperate wheats from the rest with out looking through them

I'm counting this as Roll Searching, because that is what I was doing when I found it.

I am sure you have all heard the phrase "Laughing all the way to the bank." Well today I turned that phrase on it's head.

Some of you may remember my posts in the last couple days regarding the bank that had $160 in halves. I went to buy them today, and they still had them but the teller who's vault they were in was off for the day. Even the bank manager could not enter her vault without her being present. I said to myself "So, this is how today is going to go."

I decided to hit up the Bank of America in the same parking lot, shopping center thing. No luck, not a single half dollar. As I am walking home I pass buy a super market that has a Wells Fargo inside it. At this point I am thinking to myself "Noo, they never have anything it isn't even worth my time." But finally I convince myself to stop in. I ask the teller for half dollars and he looks to his tray, and says "No, I don't have anything right now.." then looks to his left at the teller next to his tray "No, she doesn't either I'm afraid." but when he looked over at her tray it drew my attention to it. Out of the little bit of her tray they I can see, something catches my eye. I can tell it is a pre '65 coin rim sitting off to the side, all by it self seperate from the other coins. I say "What's that?" and I point. He says "Oh, those are just come chocolate coins." Me: "No no, that one there." He picks it up, looks at the girl and says "Do you want to sell this to him?" I hear her under her breath say "I have to, I can't tell him no, I have no choice I have to." So, he hands over a 1964-D Washington and I hand him over some worthless hunk of metal.

There I was, Laughing all the way FROM the bank.

  17. Nice! It's always great finding silver in those trays

Interesting, BAC tellers have to sell if asked for it... I'll be filing that one away.

    Box of nickels, pretty good.

2 buffs, one a dug find and heavily corroded, the other a full-date VF 1936. 3 war nickels, including a '42-P that looks like it was with the Buffalo. About a roll of pre-55's too. Oh, and one Canadian.

Today has been very good to me.
