Been a dry week on the finds, so instead I will share this. Old storage containers for slides, perfectly hold standard coin holders. I find them at thrift stores all the time and are much nicer than the typical cardboard storage box.

That is a great reuse of an item. Great idea.

Last month I went through several pounds of wheaties... I found some "good" early dates that were really decrepit, but the best find was a 1956-d RPM, FS-501!

Looked through 8 boxes of dimes and 4 boxes of quarters. I found nothing! Not even a w quarter. What a bummer that was. I will keep trying I guess. I thought it would be easy to find at least one silver or a w quarter but we will see.

It's been a while since I bagged a W. I picked up 3 rolls the other day and GF got 2. There were 18 looks. 9% out of 200. Not bad these days. One of her rolls had a Tall Grass Prairie butterfly W. TGP2.png

I only have 5 of the 10 diff designs. Of course I have 3 Tall Grass but I'll take it.
2 Lowell, 1 War in Pac, 1 San Antonio, 1 Salt River and 3 Tall Grass. I thought I had a Marsh Billings. I don't know if I will ever complete this set from circulation. w/e

I’m with you on that. I would think that they would be possible to find but it’s going to be hard.

Got pretty much skunked on my latest nickel box. The only find to share was a well worn no date buffalo. The early decade count were were four from the 1940s and seven from the 1950s. All were high mintage coins.

I have not gone through rolls of coins for a long time due to banks not giving anything out except to "business customers." I was able to get my hands on a box of dimes recently and saw this. There were two 1962 D silver dimes and one 2009 P. I am glad some of you are able to get multiple boxes, but my two banks are super stingy!

    I recently got 4 rolls of Halves. Found these in 2 of them. 1972 S, 1976 S, and 2002 S.

I picked up 2 rolls. I haven't finished going thru them (3 looks at a W in the 1st one) but in the first roll I pulled out this nice Idaho S mint. Not silver but a low mintage 2.3M proof. When I saw the reverse I thought wow this looks really nice.

I changed gears from my usual nickel box to a box of halves. The box was a snooze fest from start to finish. The only time I blinked was looking at a 2003-D NIFC. Oh and I should say at was a Loomis box which I heard they have a method to extract the silver offerings. True or false?

A while back Loomis claimed they were going to take the silver out. I still found 1 or 2 quarters but I don't doubt they are doing this. And it may depend on what state you are in. Because on You Tube the CRH are still pulling out silver and some of them are Loomis boxes.

A few years back I bought a few rolls of silver quarters on eBay, and they SHIPPED FROM N. F. String & Sons. That told me what I needed to know about whether change providers were searching for silver.

I can tell you personally that the one in Harrisburg PA does this. Worked with a guy whose part time job was literally pulling mutalatled coins and any coins of value they saw on the conveyor belt.

Found two Susan B proofs today, one being a 1979 clear S. First time I've ever come across one. IMG_20231111_111837360~2.jpg 1334419317454.jpg

I believe the package was postmarked out of Harrisburg. But it's hard to believe that they'd rely on human inspectors, given the volume of coins they must process. I expected they had something very much like a vending-machine mechanism to kick out suspect coins. (Although scaling THAT up might be non-trivial, too...)

String is a company that makes coin wrappers. Not a "change provider" or armored car service.
