Are these one off defects worth a premium? Are they considered a variety?

    Coinblogger,

Yes, many "Struck Thru" errors are worth a premium! The value usually depends on what type of "Strike (Struck) Thru" error that it is but any "Struck Thru" error where the offending object or item is "Retained" (still stuck in or attached to the coin) is very sought after and worth a much higher premium above other "Struck Thru" errors.

    Jose,

Congrats on a great find! I have only found one retained "Struck Thru" error in all my years of searching coins. Thanks for sharing!

According to error trends magazine, it shows no price for an IKE struck through with retained staple, usually meaning they have not found one to value yet. If you follow other such error prices, it COULD be worth upwards of $200. Wonderful find. Might be worth getting certified!
