Hello all! I am new to the forum and have had a lot of fun reading through old posts over the last couple of days. I have learned quite a bit. I recently got back into collecting coins after a long hiatus (collected during my early teen years, sold the collection in the lean college years, am now in my mid-20s and have a bit of extra money for a hobby that is both fun and practical).

I have always been most interested in silver American coinage, but have been thinking lately about looking for a few ancient, medieval, or otherwise historically significant items from Rome and the British Isles.

My question is, for those of you who buy ancient and world coins online, what are some of your favorite sites? I am leery of buying from eBay as I wouldn't want to get suckered into buying a fake, and I am also nervous about shopping locally because I live in an area which is rather infamous for its scam artists (south Florida).

So far I have found ancientcoins.ca and forumancientcoins.com and would be interested in any other sites that you all can suggest.

    Thanks!

Both site you mentioned have good reps. Never bought from ancientcoins.ca, but have heard good things.

Besides CoinTalk you can try ancients.info or forumancientcoins.com for a forum.

VCoins.com is a decent place to buy. 90+ dealers & they all sign on to a code of conduct which states they will guarantee a coins authenticity for life, among other things.

Doug has listed some dealers here...

...some of them deal in ancients.

There are a fair number of fakes on ebay at any given time. You can check the fake reports on ForumAncientCoins and there is also a forum topic there dedicated to fakes (including sellers to avoid) where many experts in the field post.

    Good reference sites are...

    Welcome to the forum.

What ever you do NEVER buy anything from DMITRY MARKOV. Even though he is a dealer on vcoins he absolutly does not follow the dealers code of ethics and is extremely unprofessional!!!!!!

If anyone has any questions please email me at lihueboy@hotmail.com and I will be more than happy to forward all of his emails so you can see what a crooked dealer he is.

Not too sure what you mean there gladiator, but Drimiti Markov is an extremely well reputated dealer when it comes to Russian numismatics. As well as, he was the one who handled the most expensive Russian coin, Konstantain 1825 ruble, which went over half a million USD.

Anyone else buy from Frank Robinson? http://www.fsrcoin.com
I've been buying from him for quite some time now. Great coins and great service. He's currently running his ancient coin auctions on his website, check it out.

Maybe when it comes to Russian numismatics he is ok. Like I said before email me and I can forward you all of his emails showing how unprofessional and unethical he is. I did not buy a Russian coin, but rather a "contorniate" which was later condemed as a forgery by both David R. Sear and Curtis Clay. He refused to accept this and till this day has not refunded me for the coin. You also have to keep in mind that this situation started about 4 months ago. However when I contacted the IAPN he slowly started to cooperate. Like I said before gxseries if you want the proof give me your email address and I can show you just what I am talking about. There is just too much info for me to list here. I can also send you the letter I wrote to the IAPN if you like. My email address is lihueboy@hotmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon.
