I recently purchased a set of 4 nickels in a lewis and clark display case on ebay. The condition was listed as "uncirculated" but a couple of the coins were in pretty bad condition including a couple heavy scratches on the obverse. The seller responded to my request for information by saying that uncirculated means just that, and the coins could have scratches. I am pretty new to coin collecting and was looking for a more experienced opinion on this topic. Does "Uncirculated" mean just that or am i getting ripped off? Thanks in advance!
The definition of uncirculated is defined as a coin that has no wear. So to answer your question, yes an uncirculated coin can have dings, marks and scratches. They come that way direct from the mint. And pardon my manners - Welcome to the Forum !!
It would sure be nice to know what all these words mean to coin collectors. Websters is no good for this info. I have found out.
