Thanks. Very hard to see the VDB but it's there. So I don't know why I can't find it on my coin or on any on ebay, even highly graded slab ones!
Peter, I returned it after one day. I just wasn't satisfied with how difficult it is to get a good photo, and to get one of a whole larger coin, like a half dollar or larger. I wrote to Plugable about this and here is what they said below in quotes. So it's not even made for this purpose. Plugable: "We can get around this limitation by moving the microscope away from the object. Keep in mind that this device was designed for microscopic viewing (viewing tiny details not visible to the naked eye), and what you're trying to do is use it as a macroscopic device (take a picture of a large subject). A cell phone camera or a webcam is far better suited to this task. The microscope stand was designed with modularity in mind, all threads are 1/4"-20, which is the same as all camera mounts. This means that the microscope can be attached to nearly any tripod or camera mount out there, or modified to fit a custom mount. You can also try something like placing the suction cup on a piece of glass, such as a window, and placing your subject below that. I encourage you to experiment and find out what works best for you! Cheers, Sam Morgan Plugable Technologies
Wow Rick, that's a bummer. Thanks for letting me know though. You had to be so psyched when it came. I'm assuming your money will be refunded? The ad really shouldn't of put a pic of it showing a coin, and quite crisp on top of that. So they wan't you to try all kinds of ways and ad gizmo's like a suction cup lol Did you at least try and take a pic of any type of bug? I get a kick of them saying to use a cell phone Again thanks for saving me the hassle of ordering a similar one.
How about this one? https://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Perfo...-Lighthouse-/113053705160?hash=item1a5286a3c8 At least it specifically says its for coins and has a tripod for adjusting the distances. But my concern is that you need to be more knowledgeable than I am about photography to be able to deal with glare, lighting, etc to get a great photo.
It looks the same, but for $160 I think that's were the similarity ends.. I'm on a laser forum and there alot of self described electronic nerds. Let me ask there about what they think. There is this kid "Styropryo" who does alot of crazy builds on Utube. He's into coins also. This kid is a gifted genius. I mean 1600 SAT's scores and a probably easily 180 or more IQ. Full ride to school type of kid and a triple Masters at 20 already. Not a snob bone in him, he will know. I certain this listing would do great but maby something cheaper out there. I doubt it a cheaper one will do but you never know.
Turns out that one doesn't even include the stand! That is $68 extra. So far, I'm sticking to my phone camera!
No way! I didn't even notice also. If your ever going to sell coins, then I can see the investment in it, but your phone camera is just fine..
Really just trying out this app. I just agreed to help a friend sale his inherited coin collection. (Small coin collection) Part of which is a penny collection ranging from 1819 to 2002. Big pennies from the early 1800's, a flying eagle penny, indian head pennies, wheat pennies, and Lincoln pennies
Welcome to CT Dusty. You might want to get nice images and start a new thread for each coin. That will get you good information.
