Another thread made me think of this. Look at the sixth post from gxseries.

What odd types of responses have you all had? This made me remember one from a few years ago actually.

I was selling off some of my state quarter rolls. Yes, clembo selling them as I got them all at face.

Anyway a guy wins a roll of New York I believe it was. Like $12 or so so I email with total cost and made a mistake. Mistake was my total price was under face value.

Does he take advantage of it? NO - he sends me a scathing email about how he's a lawyer and SINCE I made this mistake I should honor the price I quoted YADA, YADA.

No problem I say I'll sell at what I said. Like a few bucks is gonna kill me? My mistake my problem.

In the long run he did pay the actual price and it was a smooth transaction. What set him off I'll never know nor do I want to.

    Share your stories folks.

    Fine, I say.

I had a guy freak out after he bought 6 1st edition Clive Cussler books from me. He thought that just because the number line didn't go 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 that meant it wasn't a first edition. So he threatened me with legal action and left me negative feedback and dirty e-mails. And talked about how he discussed it with his students and they all agreed that I was some kind of dirtbag and needed to give back his money. All this over $30, a bargain for 6 Better title Cusslers mind you. So I get out my attribution guide, scanned what it says about identification of a 1st edition for each of the books he received and emailed him with the information, to show him they were all indeed 1st eds. His response was to ask why I didn't include that information to begin with and I had a responsibilty to please my buyers and now I was harassing him with emails besides not refunding his money. So I took the negative hit, and asked him to take some lithium becasue he was obviously highly imbalanced not to mention some other choice words i delivered regarded collecting and self education when collecting.

Sometime back I had an item listed on Ebay.
Someone ask "Will you ship to New York"
I started to say no but I was nice.

A different time I was selling an AG Bust dime. It was bright white.
Bidder sent a message saying he would like to bid but only if the coin was never cleaned. My fault, I should have said it was cleaned in the listing.
At the same time I thought this person should not be buying raw coins on Ebay.

It's really crazy what can come up selling coins.:)

Once I sold an old blender (at deco, 1940s) for around $15.00. A few days later the buyer emails me and says it arrived damaged, virtually destroyed. Immediately I refund him a check (before paypal days) even though they didn't request insurance, (it's just good business). About three weeks later I get another e-mail asking where the check was at. Hmmm, time to check the bank now -- according to my bank the refund check had been cashed. By this time I'm ticked off since the purchaser was offering this blender for sale himself. I was born at night, but it wasn't last night.

I calmly inform the individual that he was going to receive a NEG unless he #1. Returns the amount I sent him via check, or #2. Returns the blender which is for sale by him.

A few days go by and an e-mail arrives saying that he's very sorry and had been off his medication, yada, yada, yada... Apparently he's schizophrenic and one of his other personalities was infact the individual who closed the deal on the blender and that he was going into the hospital for a few weeks.

I calmly responded with "who exactly should I leave a NEG for" -- LOL ;) The individual never responded after appropriate feedback had been posted...

About a year or so ago, I was interested in a coin on ebay and emailed the seller for a close up photo. Well, he responded so negatively I was shocked. He went off on me every way he could and then blocked me from bidding on his coin. I guess he had something to hide.

About a year ago I bought a 1909-S Lincoln, nice coin which now resides in a PCGS 63RB holder, from a seller with ZERO feedback ( I gambled ). I won and paid with paypal knowing I probably had a chance at my money back if he shystered me.

A week later after no email, a beauty 09-S arrives in an envelope, just an envelope and a stamp.

I email the guy after leaving a pos, and tell him about the delivery confirmation thing, he MUST use it to not get burned, as he cannot prove delivery without it.

He emails and thanks me then says he has the rest of his coins to sell, would I be interested, Ebay is too much trouble. You bet I reply !!

A month later, 2 USPS priority flate rate mail boxes arrive, insured and I had to sign for them. A note inside says "pay me what they are worth". I did.

2 complete sets of Lincolns and a whole bunch of early 40's BU rolls in tubes and shotguns older than I am.

There is a part 2 story of the buyer angrily replying back to me. The same buyer actually won the counterfeit coin at 400USD. I think it was a Gangut ruble and prices back then for a genuine easily exceeded a few thousands of dollars. I then wrote to him that it was his choice for not listening... he probably got upset and wanted to confirm the case after several people emailed him.

I think much of the problem is that people have become so greedy. I know some people that absolutely have to rip people off on a sale to feel good about themselves. Everything 'they have' is gold and anything they want to buy is junk. They have to buy things dirt cheap or they won't buy it at all. Then as soon as it's in their possession, it 'magically' becomes valuable and they expect two to three times what they paid for it.

I just want fair prices on things. If it's fair, I'll pay it. Although I also think there are quite a few sellers with something to hide on there. That is aggravating and I have been less than polite with several people.
