Archeological excavations in Parthian-Sassanid cemetery of Damavand led to discovery of some unique historical artifacts including an amphora (a type of ceramic vase with two handles and a long neck narrower than the body), several ritons (goblets designed with the head of an animal on the bottom usually in the shape of a lion, horse, ibex, or winged lion which were used for drinking holy wine during the Parthian era), as well as a number of Sassanid coins engraved with the design of Khosrow Parviz. The remains of architectural style of the Sassanid dynastic era (224-651 AD) can be seen in this cemetery which was discovered during the construction of a new branch for Elm-o Sanaat University in the city of Damavand in Tehran province.
