I found this 1986 penny the only thing weird about it is it is the same size as a nickle. Has anyone ever heard of such a coin?
    Thanks Keith

Is it the same size as a nickel or the same color? If it is the same color, it could be missing its copper coating.

Could you post a picture of it next to a regular cent?

It could be some kind of pattern. If I were you I would send it to ANACS and see what they think.

It certainly looks unusual. The devices, everything about it is bigger than normal. It's no ordinary cent struck on an off-metal or un-plated planchet. Take some measurments if you can - the size of the legends, Lincoln's portrait etc. And weigh the coin.

The nickel has been in an acid bath. The "unusual" cent has been treated in some solution, maybe a light acid which removed the copper plating.

Hey Kras - read the OP again. Then look at the pic - that cent coin is a lot bigger than an ordinary cent.

It's not a broadstrike either, The rim width is too narrow and regular for that.

It's a fake. The plating was removed and the coin was pounded between two pieces of hard leather, causing proportional expansion on both faces. I've seen others like it.

Could it be digital magic? Notice the edge shadows in pic with nickel. Though the nickel is thicker - the shadow is thinner than the other two coins. Me thinks someone is trying to pull our leg.

Couldn't that just be because of the angle of the picture?

Could be the angel of the light casting different shadows.

The shadows could be the way the angel of the light is hitting the coins.

Not exactly a speedy response on my part. Not exactly as easy to reproduce ether. They doesn’t look anything like rkpd pic’s. :(

I used 1/8" cured cow hide. I found if I used a heave hammer or swung to hard I would dint the coin. It also takes really good blow control to keep the coin round. I have a feeling nether one of my coins will be fooling anyone. One thing I did discover, the rim, being the thickest part of the coin doesn’t flatted.
