Hi, I was wondering how I would go about ordering half dollars from my favorite FCU; when I have gotton rolls from them I usually ask if they have ANY halves at all: loose, boxed, rolled, bagged, etc. Anyway they would say that they don't carry them unless requested, so my question is WHO would I talk to and exactly what would I say to that person? Simply could you order half dollars for me? Or is there a LOT more deatil then simply asking. I would doubt that they say they don't prefer to order coins because they have the new 2009 pennies, and plenty of them. Any insight on this topic would be of great help to me; I've never asked a bank or a FCU to order coins for me.

    Thanks in advance! :D

I would think that the teller you dealt with would be able to direct you top the person who handles the orders. If you want to remain on their good side, spend the halves when you get them, don't bring them back after you've cherry picked! I'm sorry for being a little ignorant, but what is an FCU?

That would make sense now wouldn't it! :p
And yes I did read on another thread that the teller told the person she did not want to see those halves ever again! So I would exchange those elsewhere! Don't want to be scolded by my favorite FCU! :desk:

And a FCU is the acronym for Federal Credit Union.

    Thanks for the help! :D

The Vault teller is the one that will order the coins. Then she either has to be there when you pick them up or you call ahead and she will sell them to a regular teller to hold for you.

I fugured it was some sort of credit union. It must be a regional thing I guess. They are all called credit unions in Wisconsin.

This now depends on where you live. Around me in Illinois I've now been told by Chase and Bank of America they will no longer carry half dollars. They will no longer order half dollars for anyone. I asked what about a buisness. Again, I was told no buisness has ever asked for half dollars and that is one more reason to not handle them anymore. I asked what is done with the ones brought in by a customer. Told they are shipped out to main vaults in other states or sent to the Federal Researve pending on where the next shipment of coins is headed.
Also, told Bank of America will no longer handle bulk coins for individuals unless involved in a buisness that requires coins. If brought in by a customer the coins must now be shipped out for counting and there is a charge for that.
I've had accounts in these and a few other banks in my area and all are starting the same practices.
