Nice coins, but are they worth what the asking price considering they are damaged. I made an offer which was rejected, just wondering if I should up my offer http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170272732012&ssPageName=STRK:MEBOFFX:IT
Let you offer stand at this point. Maybe after thinking about it over the weekend, they will reconsider.
Just to clarify, my offer was 1/2 of asking. Thinking a jeweler may be able to remove the mounts and make some presentable coins of them again, but I am sure this will cost $$ and they still will never be worth their full value.
Be happy he didn't accept your offer. No matter what, these will always be problem coins. And will you look at the scrubbing they've gotten....
I don't see any scrubbing, Some of the weird marks you see are from the coin these were overstruck on, typically Mexican 8 Reales, but could be US dollars or other.
I'm sorry, maybe I'm a little over the top with "scrubbed", but these pieces have been made into jewelry and to think they've never received a cleaning at one point or another is totally unrealistic. Perhaps I just should have said they look cleaned....
Interesting patina on the coins. Never the less, 960 Reis coins from early to mid 19th century are not that rare. In fact, many of the dates border on common. I think you would be much better off to skip this lot, and instead wait for something that isn't impaired. For the same money, you could get a decent problem-free almost uncirculated specimen that would hold its value much better over the long haul.
You are right, I have decided to pass on these, He indicated that He will no accept lower than 200.00 + shipping, which will be full book value for unimpaired coins, I will just wait for better specimens.
