This is my first medieval coin, (may not be the last one either) Any opinions would be great!!!!!! Grade? I have no clue. The coin is a Henry III, Long Cross 1247-1272. I have ALWAYS been a medieval history geek. This was my chance to hold a piece of it in my hand.
Looks great. Nice coin :thumb: BTW what is relief of this coin? From the looks of the picture, I would imagine ultra high relief.
Thanks!. no it's not high relief at all, it's the photo. It is just a really well struck penny. I'll post the obverse tomorrow for sure. (gives me a reason to look at it again!)
The left side of the coin is a little flat, but nothing unusual. Thats a nice coin! Great Buy! And just as a note. Techinicaly(probably spelt wrong) the obverse would be the side with the monarch depicted on it. The cross would be the reverse.
LOL!!! I cant spel either don't worry about it! Thanks for the pointer there byrd. Glad you like it. I too was a little concerned about that flat spot but I figured I could live with it. I really like the coin so I went for it. Groat or groats may be next! Thanks for your help!
Me too. First party in medieval coins? Confusing! :kewl: Foray is what you're looking for. Beautiful coin, before Edward I made all the coins a little boring.
Lovely Penny Merlin now go forth (or even out) and find a groat LOL I still have a number that I realy must get scanned and up on the site
Yes Sir!, that is the plan! I've been doing a LOT of reading to learn more. Getting a bit of a "crash course" if you will. Thanks De Orc!
