I won a small lot of tokens for around $5 on ebay and I got a jazz token. It looks to me to be from the 70's but it's just a guess. Anyone know anything about the Montreaux jazz festival and when they used these tokens, what they were for or any info at all? I appreciate any and all responses

Not quite sure how these were used, but it seems that the shape of the central hole has something to do with the face value of the token. Here are three different "denominations":

    1 Jazz (triangle) http://images-01.delcampe-static.net/img_large/auction/000/076/967/742_001.jpg
    2 Jazz (square) http://images-00.delcampe-static.net/img_large/auction/000/054/141/164_001.jpg
    5 Jazz (pentagon) http://images-00.delcampe-static.net/img_large/auction/000/071/465/843_001.jpg

And this article http://www.news.ch/Jazzfestival+Montreux+wird+abgespeckt/267930/detail.htm (in German) says that the Montreux Festival currency "Jazz", introduced in 1990 but never really appreciated by the audience, would be phased out in 2007. Guess it was used to buy drinks etc. during/at the festival ...

I picked up a "5" piece this weekend. Didn't realize it was such a recent festival, but the pattern on the token (a piano pierced with a pentagonal hole) is pretty neat.
