I was very happy to snag a ultra rare Regal AV Triens/ Sigebertvs III from CNG Auction today. Aquitaine Kingdom AV Triens ND 13mm. 1.19g. .565 9h Bannassac (Lozére) Mint Sigebertvs III 633-56 Moneyer : Gavaletano obv: Diademed Bust King SIGIBeRTAS RIX rev: Chalice surmounted by Cross GAVALeTANO BAH (exergue) Belfort 760 NM 30 2 known
I don't have any Merovingian gold, of course. That's the sort of stuff I dreamed about when I was detecting over in the UK, though I suppose this sort of thing would be found more on the Continent.
I think I have seen a couple of Regal coins in name of Sigebert III from Banassac Mint/ but had different obverse/ reverse legends. Most Merovingian coins are super rare/ esp. regal issues. National ones are most plentifull in different mints/ moneyers/ but all are rare. Most 1-5 known.
I got mine at an auction on VAuctions or Agora from a dealer who was out of Georgia. I loved his auctions but he took a job with a major dealer and stopped. Maybe someone remembers his name, as I have forgot. If I found the coin in one of my SDBs it would be labeled with it. Merovingians I truly like, as they are rare from an important, embryo timeframe of European history. I find just not much for sale and very expensive so only own maybe 8-10. Plus, I have too many subcollections to do them justice. This is my only gold.
