Winners- your goodies have been shipped.

@Craigescape - While preparing your shipment, I finally opened the package containing your "gold coin" and was rather taken aback.

You see, I was fully expecting something tiny and crude - and even smaller than those (Sindh?) coppers everyone else got.

    But this ... wow.

I wasn't quite expecting something the size of a sesame seed!

The seller had shipped it taped to a tiny card, here shown with a Lincoln cent for scale.

Yes, you can legitimately claim ownership of a gold coin now, but that's a bit of a joke.

So ... yeah. This is a little embarrassing.

Should still be fun, though. And you're also getting the BU Wheat cent I used for scale in that photo above.

I also printed up a holder, since the seller had shipped it in a plain, unmarked flip. I did reattach it to a piece of (green) paper with the same tape that had mounted it to the seller's little white card. It's not like it has much in the way of design anyway. (Who could have engraved dies that small?) Without mounting it on a piece of paper, it's hard to see and would be frighteningly easy to lose.

In some ways, the extreme tininess adds to the novelty of the thing, so I guess that's good.

I hereby swear that the next time I give away a gold coin, I'll have it in hand, first. It will be tiny, but not this tiny!

It is still pretty neat to own a coin that small. I think it is cool to own really small coins and really big coins.

even tho is super small its still cool. someone took quite some time to make a die to punch little items. if this was used for currency how did they keep track of them? I will have to do some major searching to see if I can find any information on this. Thanks again for the contest, I was surprised and happy that I got drawn. and I am always up for wheat pennies I have a full shoe box full of them devided by year, mint and grade. most are only in good state as they were ones found in old penny jars. some are lower than that is they have a grade for lower...lol like my 1909 looks like it was in a battle and lost.

I do have a question for you, what do you do with coins that are shot? i have buffalo nickles that the date is gone. scratched up foreign coins and a 2 cents piece with a hole in it.

What to do with damaged coins? That's entirely up to you.

I know a guy who used to have a thing for holed coins. ;)

I think those types of coins give them character and shows that they have been used for the intended purpose.
