I’m looking to buy this 5 cent piece I want to know your opinions to confirm it’s real and potential value?
Looks like a Large 5 C variety. I can't see the date on the obverse clearly enough. It's not a 3 over inverted 3 is it? If it's between VF and XF it could be in the $100-$125 range. These are tough to grade because they are so small. If it's XF $150?
I was worried about the inconsistent denticles around the rim. long on one side shortening to not much on the other side. I'm looking on upgrading from a G-8ish version.
I did notice the denticles. I thought it might be the strike pattern and wear, again, considering how small these coins are. I was not aware these half dimes were being counterfeited. But anything goes in the 21st century I guess.
Whats going on around the date. Die crack at 5 o/c. Nice coin. Not to shabby. Cant help ya with grade. Sorry. Keep us posted.
Do you think the E in states is dirt. I hope so. I like the a's on the reverse. Those crazy craftsmen
yeah the As are oddly shaped. The E looks like damage but won't know until it's in hand. The 3? will do with the pictures. But I'll make sure they are blurry and too small.
I didn't see anything that jumped out as fake when I first saw the pics. I looked in my copy of Federal Half Dimes by Logan and McCloskey (1998 edition) and your coin looks like it might be Large 5C LM-7. They list this die marriage as R-4 Rare. On pic in their book, the denticles on the obv look similar to yours. The rev denticles look long and narrow and are weakest in the 1 o'clock area (but yours are weaker). Not my area of expertise, but I think it's authentic
