I took these pics for you. These are the best I could do, the the 'helmet' looks to me more like WWI than WWII.

 

I apologize that this isn't coin or exonumia related, but I wanted to share another of my favorite WWII pieces.

 

Looks like it could be a farm fair. Many counties had annual fairs to promote farming and this token could fit that scenario very well.

Sounds good! It was found behind a Town hall in an old Ball Park that I suspect was an old homesite at one time as well. Many trinkets found! Awesome dig too. Bottles everywhere and pottery.

 

Looks like it could be either but the date of the coin would make it WW 2 I think. Then again it might not even be a helmet but something else. Interesting coin though.

It might not be a helmet. I've had that piece for a long time. I can't remember if I read up on it or just assumed it was a helmet due to the shape. It could be something completely different but I sure as heck don't know what. LOL

 

Wikipedia says "The U.S. Army used the basic Brodie-patterned M1917 helmet until 1942 with some modifications, which included a totally new liner and canvas chin strap. It was finally superseded by the M1 helmet in 1942 and passed down to civil defence." The M1917 is pictured below, so it does seem like your "coin" was intended to represent a helmet and period-correct for 1942, which appears to be the date on the coin. (I'm no military expert, I just poke around)

I can't seem to say no to the Bamboo Viper. This is my third one. As I mentioned before it's attributed to the 35th CSG which would be the Command Support Group personnel for the 35th Tactical Fighter Wing.



Phan Rang was a USAF base during the Vietnam War with numerous types of aircraft: F4's, F102 Delta Daggers, F100's, B-57's, Wild Weasels, Psyops aircraft and my favorite, for it's nickname, the C-123 Provider. It's funny that this post comes after ZoidMeister's Sommer Island piece. The C-123 Provider was nicknamed "Thunder Pig."
