Hi De Orc, that Ecuador 1/2 decimo 1893 minted in Lima is interesting. It wasn't too much before that the Lima itself was having its coins minted in Santiago. The Peru 1/2 Sol 1942 evokes some memories (my father was working in Peru back in the late 50's, and i remember seeing those in circulation as a child..)
Thanks for posting the photos! Thanks for posting the photos. Seeing your first two of Argentina & then Brazil got me to thinking about my trip there last summer.
It's great when you hear that someone has used the coins that you have posted and Collect what part of Brazil di you visit? I am hoping to go back over for a month or two come the winter
The Reis coins from the brazilian republic have to be some of the most beautiful coins made. In my opinion this coins represents the Creme de la Creme of brazilian coinage.
Some of the art work on a number of the coins is extreemly good but then you look at some of the others Not so good Now this one I like
I spent time in Sao Paulo (dangerous city), San Sebastian (secluded beach hotel) & Manaus (Amazon) in Brazil. If you plan to visit San Sebastian or Manaus send me a PM for further information. While in Argentina, we ended up spending a week in the Buenos Aires area. I visited about 4 coin shops all in one shopping area in BsAs. Very best regards, collect89
I have never visited in that area of Brazil & have only seen pictures. Recife looks nice. I do some business travel & then try to arrange for some adventures wherever I am.
I remember seeing the Argentina ten centavos coins back in the 1950's when I was a young boy living in Argentina. By the late 50's the centavos coins had been replaced by the pesos coins due to inflation. The old centavos coins where relegated to some junk drawer never to be used again. Lou
A-ha, so they have that change shortage in Argentina because you hoard the coins. The piece from Brazil with the ring of stars plus constellation in the center looks good. And, well, that coin from the US Philippines I would move out of this topic ... Christian
I do like the Aztec influence on Mexican coins and that gold one I would love to see a clearer pic of that :hail:
