I wish to thank @Greg Heinrich for motivating me to follow through with another version of my poster. This is a variation of the Judaean Prutot poster from a couple of weeks ago and includes a sampling of the many Roman, Nabataean, Ptolemaic, Seleucid, and Scythian coins that I have acquired. I need to include my Parthians with the next version. I briefly considered featuring all nations on one poster but have abandoned that idea. I'll have more posters to show you in the coming days. It's hard to believe that a year ago my entire collection consisted of one boxed set of 14 Judaean coins. Thanks to all of you for the inspiration!
One small detail, and it really is insignificant, but I should mention that the landscape at the bottom of the poster does not fit the time period of any of these coins. You would not see minarets and the domes of mosques in that area of the world for another 550+ years after the youngest coin was minted (70-106 AD). Frankly, Greek and Roman temples would have been a far more accurate background. Reminds me of the HBO series ROME. When Pompey gets beheaded at the beach, you see a minaret in the background.
Actually the skyline is based on the skyline of modern Jerusalem which is from where I obtained most of the coins. You're right about the minarets and domes.
No Parthians in this version? Then there's no point in even looking at it. Just kidding, Deacon Ray! This is a fantastic chart, both in the quality of the collection and in the graphic layout. I bet if you printed this up on good quality paper and sold it as a poster at coin shows, you could make some nice spending cash (at least enough to keep building the collection).
Now that you mention it I can actually recognize some of the building profiles. Here is a picture from a recent trip looking at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (is that it on the right?). Jerusalem is such a mishmash of domes, bell towers, minarets and spires that it's skyline is amazingly unique. Did you make the city profile yourself @Deacon Ray? Just when I though my estimation of your talent couldn't get any higher you go build another awesome poster bravo
LOL! I'm planning a poster showing my Parthian coins. I wanted to mention the Parthian support of Judaean—Antigonus II Mattathias.
WOW!! That's simply terrific!!! If you ever decide to 'mass-produce' and sell 'posters', I'm sure I'd love to purchase a few!
Very nice presentation of historical significant objects used by citizens of ancient cultures. Great job!
