I came across this penny. Had it in a penny jar.
Anyone know the value, or can point me to a website to similar errors to find out the value. thanks

It looks to me to be a 1961D with a small die break on the 1 of the date. Is that the error you are referring to or is it something else?

    And...Welcome to the forum!

Sorry - not a minor die break like this, and not on a circulated one. There are a few Lincolns with a die break that command a premium of a dollar or two like a BIE, where there is a break between the B and E of LIBERTY, or if it is was at the edge of the coin, where it is called a CUD, those have value...

    Is this 1964 d error a CUD ?

I noticed on this 1964 d penny that the "L" in liberty seems to have been stamped slightly off the edge of the penny , but the rim around the penny is evenly elevated all the way around on both the front and back of the coin. Is this what someone here called a CUD ?

Yes, It's a 1961-D and no big premium on it even if it was in MS. But it's a cool looking Cent.

    Hi and Welcome,

It is a 1961 D cent and that is a minor die chip on the 1. It is worth , perhaps a nickel.

    Thanks,
    Bill

If your coin was a Morgan or Peace dollar - then the die break might actually add a premium but cents and other modern US coinage at this time aren't collected under the same parameters as VAMs. Who knows 10 or 15 years from now - collectors might apply VAM type guidelines to other series - I'd put it in a cardboard flip and throw it to the side.
