Is this 1883 Carson City Morgan Genuine or a counterfeit?

Looking at the coin, it has the indicative hit on the upper left of the eagles breast on the reverse. Surfaces could be from a cleaning, but other than that, I don't see anything screaming at me this is a fake. More experienced collectors, could you weigh in with your opinions and indicators?

Hard to say from the pictures, but I think it may have been whizzed. I don't collect Morgan Dollars, but leary when they have no bag marks. If it is actually real or not I'm not the right person to answer that.

Pics are a bit fuzzy, facial gauge on lips, and noticeable scratch make it questionable in my opinion. Wait for others to chime in before you make a decision. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Like I stated in CU, taking the time to attribute it to known VAM reverses takes less time than creating this post.

Yes, it was bad and reported...

Like most of us, we have our own interests in our collecting. I don't have a large collection of certified coins. My first exposure to certification was when I bought my first $20 Gold Liberty Head from a local dealer. I didn't have a clue as to what certification would mean. The dealer told me he was going to a "show" and he could have my coin "certified". I paid about $1,200 for the coin. I also bought a $10 Gold Liberty Head coin from him. When he came back, the $10 coin was certified by NGC as MS 61 and my $20 Gold Liberty Head came back as a problem coin and could not be certified because there was a slight scratch on the face of the front of the coin. Since then, I have not sent off any coins to be certified, but, I have bought many coins that were already certified. A little more money and a comfortable night's sleep.

    definitely cleaned, the surface scratches
are a dead give away so if the coin was
sent in, if real ? china punches these out
like clock work so if it’s not authenticated
i wouldn’t touch with a 10 ft poll just to
    much of a risk.

In lieu of buying "certified" coins, I buy my gold and silver coins from the Mint. Many members have great disdain for the Mint. In the past, I really liked their package/boxing, or whatever. Now, almost every thing has thin cardboard to package the coins and medals.

Costco 1 oz gold bars at $1945 I feel is a buy!

Yep! It looks like "the orange hoodie" has been replaced by "the maid service."

It's too bad you didn't download a picture.

Based on the details provided, this 1883 Carson City Morgan shows signs that could raise suspicion, especially around the weight and edge reeding. However, I'd recommend having it authenticated by a professional or using a reliable coin grading service to be certain of its legitimacy.

Thanks. Perhaps a lesson in recognizing AI - nobody on here said anything about weight or edge reeding, and the ebay listing was poofed a year ago. (For those just joining us, their first now deleted post was a bunch of unrelated junk with a link embedded)

The obvious spam post was removed (as well as its author). Some of the posts flagged as AI were not.
