IMG_4992.JPG Hi everyone. I have acquired a 1943 lincoln cent that does not stick to a magnet and does not have the common "8" fabrication. I have posted photos. It weighs 3.11 grams exactly. Sorry for the terrible lighting in the photos as they were taken through a magnifying glass. Can anyone let me know what they think of this peice and if it is worth getting it graded. Thank you

Awesome find! If I got one of those, the first thing I'd do, (after making sure it doesn't stick to a magnet, etc), is send it to PCGS for grading :)

Changed your pic for easier viewing.
I don't know enough about it, the S looks off to me.

I believe this is the 1 1943-S copper that is known. And the mint mark has more pronounced serifs.

Can't edit here? What a pain.
That doesn't mean yours is fake, as it could have been produced from different dies where the mint mark was not identical to this one.
But the odds of yours being real are very low.

The mint mark being the wrong shape is a definite red flag. I would send the coin in for authentication if the weight is within tolerance.

How many different types of S's are known on the 1943 cent?

Sorry for the double post. Had a glitch.
So the one with the serifs is the only one. Thanks.

As others have said, the "S" does look different. I would still send it in for grading, though, because then you could know for sure if it is a counterfeit.

It looks like a weak strike but it is actually debris that filled the numeral 4 on the Die.
It's reffered to as a Struck Through grease.
    Nothing really major.

Due to the lack of copper in the second world war, America used zinc. There were many error during the planchet process and they contained most of the accident but still some copper pennies got out of the building, those are now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Welcome, Bubbles. I see you are twelve years old and you sound like you have studied some numismatics. We have several younger members here and it's refreshing to see coin collecting embraced by the younger generation. I'll look forward to seeing some of your collecting interests. Welcome to the forum.
