An old gold crowned tooth of mine broke off recently. I asked my dentist what the karat value of dental gold was, and she replied,"18 K".

Does anyone know if this is standard? Indeed, is there a standard for dental gold?

My little 75% gold tooth-shaped nugget weighs 0.1 oz (0.09115 troy oz.), so at $930/ t.oz. it should be worth about $63.50!

    Thanks for the link, davidh.

Well, 16K is 66 and 2/3 % gold (0.6666) so I guess my "nugget" is only worth $56.50.

I guess I'll hang on to it for a while! (I wonder what Mike Tyson's mouth is worth!)

My dentist seems to think 18K is "standard". Have any of you ever asked your dentist about dental gold? Any pawnbrokers in the house?

    Well, no I have not
I didn't even know it was 18k... But I knew it was not like 24k!!! lol

I have no clue, but if your dentist said it, alright!

Now sell that baby for some coins! hahaha

It all depends on the dentist, some dental gold is a hard as 10K.
