I saw a book review for a book called Illegal Tender, which tells the story behind the 1933 Double Eagle. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/product-description/0743245741/ It seems to be interesting, and I was wondering if anyone here, as a coin collector, has read this book, and if I should follow through with buying it.
Looks like an interesting book. Heck for $16, just get it. I'll buy it for $10 when you're done with it ...Mike [edit --- corrected price]
I would get it...I've been looking at it in a book store for over $15...it seems to be great!! Speedy
Yes, this book is well worth the purchase price if you cannot get if from your local library. This book details some of the pressures that were on the office of the presidency during the depression, and what was causing some of the problems not only in America, but countries around the world. The first part of the book was a great read for myself reading about Teddy Roosevelt and how he felt the coins of his time looked like crap! Can you imagine what he would think of today’s reliefless coins. If you can afford it, buy it, if you can borrow it from the library, read it. It will make you think different about the "seizure" of privately held gold.
If u want the cheap version...Coins Magazine just did a story on this, a couple of months back, it was pretty comprehensive.
