I have a Queen Victoria 1889 Halfpenny...what's this worth? (Pictures now up) I have a Queen Victoria 1889 Halfpenny right here and i'm wondering what it's value is. It is quite faded, but I can make it out to be this exact coin.
7,748,000 were minted in bronze. In the grade of FINE this coins lists for only $1 retail in my Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins. Your coin grades ABOUT GOOD at best.
Sorry for my ignorance (don't know much about coins), but I found this auction of what seems to be the same exact coin: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=98762&item=3976943877&rd=1 They are looking to start with approx. $648 US dollars. What is the difference between this coin and mine (aside from the obvious condition)
Well for one thing the coin in the auction is an overdate - that means it's a different variety than your coin. But the primary reason is just what you said - the condition. It is the condition of a coin that establishes its value more than anything else.
