I'm just curious how many of the people on this board have, at one time or another, purchased a coin that has been slabbed by everybody's favorite grader SGS. I'm guilty of owning a 1948-S Washington quarter that I purchased a while back on Ebay. The coin is decent and the price I paid wasn't too bad but the coin is graded MS-70 when in actuality it is probably closer to MS-63. What are your SGS coins and stories? Pics would be cool for this thread too so we could get an idea of how overgraded some of these coins really are. I also have a HCGS 1953 Washington quarter graded MS-67. That company is a joke too!
No, None, Never, - I would rather buy coins off of eBay that have very blurry photos and funny comments about cleaning them than to waste my money on what I know will be all scratched up with a grade of PF70.

C'mon, I can't be the only idiot to have ever bought a coin from a crappy grading service! Be honest, who here has a SGS slabbed coin in their collection and how much did it set you back?
gopher: Sorry, but anyone else has already gone to an GSA (grading services anon) meeting and they are working on their 5 steps. 1) Admit that you were wrong. 2) Admit that they suckered you. 3) Burn slab. 4) Spread the word. 5) Read all of Aiden's posts.
I don't own one, but I saw one at a coin show last year and about started laughing. If I was that vendor I'd have popped it out and sold it proper.
I own 2 or 3....I bought them for reseach...I'm not sure where they are right now as I can't remember where I put them! Speedy
I don't own any, but I wouldn't rule it out if it was something I wanted and the price was low enough. But I would crack it out and destroy the evidence. Among second tier graders, I like and own a bunch of PCI slabs with the old green labels. The coins appear to be graded pretty conservatively. Every time I see NNC slabs, the coins appear cleaned.
NOT A COIN ==== A CASINO SILVER STRIKE TOKEN Read the THIRD post I made in THIS THREAD. I bought it to keep any collectors from believing they may have bought the ERROR variety. Not to mention I used my secondary e-Bay account knowing I would neg ABONCOM and receive the neg back. I didn't purchase the other Silver Strikes they had slabbed but below is the web page I made regarding their slabbing of Casino Silver Strikes. SGS SILVER STRIKES
I can't say that I have ever owned an SGS slab. I honestly didn't know who they were until I saw a ton of MS68 Morgans on Overstock. I guess a good rule of thumb for ANY of these Garbage Grading Services is that if someone is selling a LOT of high end (as in MS67 -68) you can assume that they are HORRIBLY overgraded. I do own a few PCI slabs and really not disappointed. Actually sent a few in when a friend of mine was sending some stuff to them. I had them graded as follows. 1892 Columbian Exposition Half Dollar at MS64 1864 Small Motto and 1872 2 Cent Pieces at XF45. That's exactly what they came back as. PCI is knocked for inconsistency I guess I caught them on a good day as I feel these coins would cross over well. If I were to EVER buy an SGS coin or any of the other (hey I'm slabbing in my basement) slabs I would HAVE TO see the coin in person. It may happen some day but I don't see it really.
My follies were JoJaxx's Gallery Grading Company (GCC) and PCI I know some swear PCI is acceptable in some ways, but i swear that morgan was rusty lol Only other slabs I have are UGS and PCGS both of which keep me happy
I bought an SGS ASE 20th anniversary set for $400 and 30 days later got $600 for it. It was a nice set thoght there is no way the 06-W unc was MS70 like the label says.
