Hmmm. I think I have spotted a pattern forming

    I had eight coins that arrived this week and spent a bit of time today photographing them. I noticed a strong theme demonstrated by seven of them which I have added below.

    Constantius II - AE2 - RIC VIII Siscia 346

    Obv:– D N CONSTANTIVS P F AVG, Pearl diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right
    Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Helmeted soldier to left, shield on left arm, spearing falling horseman; shield on ground at right. Horseman is falling forwards wearing cap reaching towards emperor
    Minted in Siscia (I | _ //DSIS Dot S Dot).

    Constantius II - AE3 - RIC VIII Siscia 361

    Obv:– D N CONSTANTIVS P F AVG, Pearl diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right
    Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Helmeted soldier to left, shield on left arm, spearing falling horseman; shield on ground at right. Horseman is falling forwards wearing cap reaching towards emperor
    Minted in Siscia (//DSIS Zigzag).

    Constantius Gallus - AE2

    Obv:– DN CONSTANTI-VS NOB CAES, Bare, bust draped and cuirassed right
    Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Soldier spearing fallen horseman, who is bare headed, reaching back towards soldier
    Minted in Alexandria (Dot S Dot | _ // ALEA),
    Reference:– cf RIC VIII Alexandria 79 (C2) where soldier wears peaked cap

    Julian II - AE3

    Obv:– D N CL IVL-IANVS N C, Bare headed draped and cuirassed bust right
    Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Soldier spears a horseman on left, one hand holding the neck of the horse & the other back at his attacker
    Minted in Rome (// R dot M dot S),

    Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Emperor bare headed & in military dress standing, holding standard with chi-rho on banner in his right hand, resting left hand on shield, two bound captives in Phrygian helmets kneeling, facing each other before him
    Minted in Antioch (//ANA).
    Reference:– RIC VIII Antioch 125

    OK. I confess. I appear to be obsessed with FEL TEMP coins of varying types.

    I saw the first four, and I thought the theme was going to be "STAB, STAB STAB!!!"

    When I first started with the uncleaned coins, about 2 coins in 10 were not FEL TEMP, they were all very uninspiring and they really put me off. Then I got a couple that were in pretty good condition. Now I find them fascinating. Fab examples Martin.
