  1. Hi my name is Kristen and I am going to the beach in September and I have the metal detector Garrett Ace 250. I am wondering is it waterproof. I got the metal detector from a friend they never used it. I just got the metal detector nothing else. And what is a good pinpointer. Thank you to who might know. And I am sorry if this is the wrong place to write this.

A simple search tells you that like many other land machines, it can get wet but the "Brains" - control section Can't be submerged in the water however . I've been metal detecting on and off for 20 years . The only ones that are for under water are specifically mentioned as Waterproof 100% to a certain depth .

I'd guess the coil is waterproof, but not the top part that beeps and gives you numbers. If I was going to the beach I'd definitely invest in one of those sand scoops with a waist high handle. Alot of people like that pinppinter they call the carrot, I think Garrett makes it.

Don't go into the water. Just stay on the sand.
There is no need to submerge the Ace 250.
Learn the detector first on land.

You talking about salt water or fresh water? I been detecting with my Garrett in the rain without issue. In fact, I even think it may detect signals better when the ground is wet. But when I got near the ocean in salt water, I had problems. As long as you are in the sand it is OK. But I had lots of gremlins when the coil was wet with salt water. Not sure what that was about, but I don't let it get wet with salt water anymore.

More chance of finding treasure in the beach sand. Rings, Cash, Chains, and the occasional body.

This is a good day for me on dry sand..
No need to try and suba dive to try and find treasure.

Unless you happen to be on the east coast of Florida searching for the "Royals" and other gold that was lost in the 1715 fleet.
