appears to be Chinese in origin, the characters in the first picture appear to be classical or ancient chinese and the second picture they seem to be in long form chinese which would probably make the medal predate the cultural revolution of the late 50's early 60's in China.
It's a Japanese medal celebrating the 1922 formal assumption by Crown Prince Hirohito (later the Showa Emperor) of Regency over his ailing father, the Taisho Emperor. Some of the characters are unclear or archaic forms, but the side without the bird at the top has the Taisho date, Year 11, across the bottom and the side panels on the other side each say "Banzai". Perhaps one of our more skilful readers of Kanji can provide a full translation. Value? What a student of Japanese history might be willing to pay.
Thanks Hontonai, I had shown this to My bosses wife who is Japanese, But she had declared it to not be Japanese. But she does not know history too well. As for value, I know that may be hard to tell, but are these common? and is it a piece that would be desirable for a history buff to have?
First one I've seen in the 50+ years of Japanese coin collecting. Although I'm somewhat of a history buff, I'm not a collector of historical artifacts, so I really have no basis for valuing your medal.
