Jody,it looks like a mounted Mogul coin.It could also be one from Afghanistan or Persia (Iran) as well.I can't read Arabic, however, apart from the numerals. Aidan.
Yes, it's a piece of jewelry. I'm hoping someone can identify the country/state of origin, and hopefully the denomination. Also verify authenticity.
Someone has suggested that it is a Persian coin, from the Fath Ali Shah (1797-1834) era. Can anyone confirm, or rupute that?
I would agree that it is Persian from the Qajar Dynasty AR One Qeran I think it is either Naser Al Din Shah could beFath Ali Shah... Could be wrong
Actually those fish have me interested more than the coins. In the book "Finger Prints of the Gods" Graham Hancock talks about the Assyrians and their worship of a Fish Garbed god Oannes. The stylized fish look to be the very same... http://images.google.com/images?um=1&tab=wi&hl=en&q=Oannes
Oannes gave mankind wisdom. That may have a lot of religious significance and also a very old piece. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oannes
