I bought my wife a new camera for Christmas and asked her to try a coin for close ups. Wow, can't believe the detail!! The lighting is not the best (I think she had the flash on for these), color didn't turn out natural but still neat to see it this close. Take a stab at the grade if you please. This one's in a NGC holder. Thanks for looking and I'll give it a few days to reveal the grade. Take care
MS63BN may have a shot at 64 but a bit concerned about the reverese. Love the "hard gloss" to it. I am a 2 Cent Junkie. clembo
Took another quick look. Can you get closeups of the date? Seeing signs of an RPD on the 8. Not uncommon, especially on the 64 large mottos but still cool.
Nice ! Definitely MS. With those marks on the reverse, I would say MS62. But with all that luster and traces of mint red, it could easily do MS63. Nice photos !
Interesting. I made up my mind before I saw all the opinions. Nice strong "WE" but a bit of weakness on the horizontal shield lines (strike or wear?) Too many dings and other marks. I say AU-55, maybe -58.
I'd grade the coin MS 63 BN, and darn attractive. Wouldn't be surprised if it was in 64 plastic because of the nice look. Much more attractive than the normally ugly, streaky, and spoted examples you see. Nice coin...>Mike
Thanks for the comments and good grading by you folks: And Clembo, the picture does kinda make it look like a RPD but in hand with a 10x shows it is not.
I would say 58. It may be the pics but the coin looks to have slight wear and too many marks for a MS coin.
Your last picture did not show for me so I don't know what the final grade was! In any case, it's a beaut! I also have a 1865 2 cent that is grade PCGS MS64 BN and I think yours has just a few more marks than mine so I'll will guess that yours is a 63. Is that right? Here's mine (I really struggle with photographing copper and just cannot capture the blue toning):
