Ok.. so I found this coin. I cannot find it anywhere and if one could tell me about this coin, year, maybe the value of it? It has 1789 George Washington 1797 First President of the United States on the head of the coin, along with a picture of Mr. Washington. On the back... It has edges like a quater would now-a-days but they are worn. It says: George Washington Born Feb. 22, 1932 First In War First In Peace First In The Hearts Of His Countrymen; Unanimously Elected First President Died December 1799. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
I suspect that what you may have here is a "medal" and not a coin. Medals are used to commemorate a person or a or maybe a specific and/or significant event. Coins are intended for commerce and display a certain value. In any event, is there a way you could post a pic? We'd all love to see it... BTW, George was born in 1732, not 1932....
Where did you "find it"? What is the metal? Aluminum? It could be a gas station token... Does anyone else think it's odd that it says George Washington was "Born Feb. 22, 1932" Thanks Ken! Honestly, sharp, in-focus, up close photos showing both sides of your piece would be greatly appreciated for CT members to help you identify what you have and answer your question(s). How To Post (upload) Photos Alternatively, a scan of each side may be of use. :thumb:
EVERYBODY knows that washington could time travel... He wrote all of Lincoln's speaches for him too...
Welcome to the neighborhood quickquestion!.....Rissrock!.....Robert!.....salman! Were all of you attending a GW medals convention or something? This medal has been posted I don't know how many times over the last 7 months, and who knows how many before that but that is when I joined. You can usually tell the difference between a (US) coin and a medal because the coin will always have the denomination, year, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM on it. Another way you can tell is that coins are struck in "coin turn" and medals are struck in "medal turn". This means that if you hold a coin between your thumb and forefinger at the 12 & 6 o'clock positions and rotate it east to west (or west to east), the reverse will be upside down. With a medal, holding it in the same positions and rotating it east to west, the reverse will be right side up. Chris
Hello I have the same Medal/Coin does anyone know the cost of it by the way I would really appreciate it. Thank You.
Worth only what a token or medal collector would pay. Don't plan on any major home renovations, or a down-payment on a new porsche
Lol! I just bought a box of coins at a garage sale and this (and an abe lincoln one) were in it. Also, wondering if it's worth anything. My first inclination would be that they are pretty worthless.
