Bought myself 4 birthday presents today at work. I'm kind of pecking away at the Barber quarter series now. Not the biggies but what I can get in a decent G4 or better cheap. Added these today for $25. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0002-2.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0001-3.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0004-2.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0003-4.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0006-2.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0005-3.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0008-1.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0007-1.jpg Nothing earth shattering but I like the series and think it has room to move. Of all the stuff I've accumulated over the years I only have about 30 Barber quarters. Darn near half of those are 1914-S and I DID get those on purpose. Want to work my way up to having a fairly complete set and maybe 3-5 rolls total. Looks like I'll be busy for a while! clembo Gpt the scans mixed up somehow. The dates I got are 192-O, 93 93-O and 1894.
Do you collect by die marriage? It seems very few collectors are looking for repunched mintmarks or misplaced dates. Could be a major source for cherrypicking.
On many Barber quarters you can find variations in the mintmark placement. They are not considered errors, just different mintmark placements. It might be difficult to find, but you might find some research on which mintmark placements are more scarce than others.
Dunno. Perhaps I should find out. Nope I don't but perhaps I should start. Sure see enough of them. clembo
I've just taken a look at about 10-12 different 1894-O quarters. All of them had the mintmark positioned over the "D" in DOLLAR except for one example. The other example had the mintmark positioned between the "R" and "D" So now we can start thinking of which mintmark is more scarce. I also note that there may be more than one mintmark position above the "D." I saw a few examples where the left edge of the mintmarks is positioned left of the edge of the "D." On other examples, both left edges line up almost perfectly. So already we have noted 3 possible varieties.
With more research I have determined 3 distinct mintmark placements. It is difficult to say which is more scarce. I've found several more that are bewteen the R and D.
Just came back from ha.com only 1 94-O , but all the other dates had them mostly like the ones earlycoins showed , thanks both of you . rzage
Thanks guys. Only one little problem. Told you I got my scans mixed up. The coin withthe minmark to the right is a 1893. My bad but too busy to play with fixing it right now. Moving onto Jamaican currency. Seriously.
