OK, so I really like silver bullion coins. I really like the idea of collecting a modern large size silver coin...one of the reason's I love the ASE so much. That being said, I would like to expand into collecting foreign silver bullion as well as I know there are some beautiful designs out there. I'm aware of both the Chinese Pandas and the Canadian Maple Leafs (but I have no idea what years either started). But, what I'm wondering is if any of you foreign coin experts could give me examples of other countries' silver bullion that also have beautiful designs that I might not be aware of. I'm sure there are other countries with ASE equivalents that are amazing.

Well the Paulu coins should actually be the $5 version. The $1 is not silver.

Japan doesn't issue anything that would strictly qualify as a "bullion" coin in the style of the ASE, etc., but it does issue silver commemoratives with some regularity. The most recent is a 2006 (Heisei 18) ¥1000 proof, for the 50 year anniversary of becoming a UN member.

I really deplore the fact that starting in 2003, they have been partially colorized.
