I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question. I got a very nice buffalo nickel 1937D with full horn and ear but noticed under the date was a little letter F stamped into the coin. I am afraid to ask but think I already know the answer.... is this a facsimilie coin? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mike I would like to thank everyone for the information, this is the first time I have gotten a buffalo that was not worn down do much to see the F, thank you very much one and all
The 'F' is the initial of the designer, James Earle Frasier. It's on all Buffalo nickels, so there's no need to worry.
It stands for James Earle Fraser, the man we have to thank for the most wonderful of designs. Enjoy your Buffalo.
Hear, hear!! Yeah, just the designer's initial. No different than the JS on the Roosevelt dime or the W found on Mercury dimes, as other examples.
WELCOME TO THE FORUM. Hopefully you are referencing what has already been said. However, if for some reason there is a rather large letter F stamped somewhere on the coin, it could just be someone goofing off. As noted if it is under the date, that's OK. If you have one somewhere else it may well be something someone did to that coin.
S - the coin was minted at the San Francisco Mint D - the coin was minted at the Denver Mint no mintmark - the coin was minted at the Philadelphia Mint
It just depends on the year, an "S" is rare for 1913, but not so much for a 1930. Coin value is a game of numbers, the less made, the more it's worth.... So one year SF might make 350,000 Nickels and the next year they may make 10,000 nickels..... It just depends on the mintage.
Well its a 1937, and it is actually in pretty good condition, you can read everything on it clearly.. I just have absolutely no idea when it comes to coins
It depends on the year. You said your coin is a 1937-D so I assume you are asking about a different coin. The following Buffalo Nickels are not common and are worth more than the average Buffalo Nickel: 1913-S T1 1913-S T2 1914-S 1915-S 1916-S 1917-S 1918-S 1919-S 1920-S 1921-S 1923-S 1924-S 1925-S 1926-S 1931-S
Well its a 1937, and its in great condition, you can clearly read everything on it, I just have no idea when it comes to coins lol
Whats a good sight to where I can read a little more on it, I dont want to keep sitting here and asking questions haha
