Just a tidbit that I am curious about and need some help. 2006 silver proof set with 2 South Dakota quarters and no North Dakota quarter. Realizing this is a packaging error and not a strike error, what road would we take to ascertain a value for this set. hope to have a hi res scan this week. This set will be for sale shortly.
The set would have no value over and above a regular set. If anything, it might sell for less because it is missing a coin.
Is it packaged in such a way that it can be definitely identified as having been assembled with one wrong coin?
This has been written up a number of times in Coin World and Numismatic News, the consensus is that, since it is 'easy' to replace a coin there is no added value. However, on eBay, it may be worth millions.
