Early Franklin Mint Rarity: 1971 FM One Dollar Matte Uncirculated

    Hi y'all. This is another rarity I came across for a princely 7 USD recently.
    It is the uncirculated version of the 1971FM One Dollar Coin. The mintage was 2,857 but all were evidently released into circulation channels at the time and none were placed in mint sets. The higher denomination 5 dollar coin was also made in uncirculated but evidently did not reach circulation and so even though scarce, is occasionally available.
    The proof is of course available in sets or survivors of broken up sets, but this is the matte uncirculated coin:

    Yes, I think that is where they got the price. At the same time I got the 1972FM One Dollar Matte Uncirculated with the Cocrico bird. It has a mintage of 1250 and also was NOT in mint sets. I have seen a few more of these over the years but the price was good so got them together. Catalog means relatively little on some of these as the cataloguers didn't have an idea - kind of throw numbers up there.
    I just like finding coins I know are rare, and especially at lower prices...
